How to plant your seeds

Can’t wait to get started on your seedlings?

You will need

  • A sunny spot in the garden or warm windowsill
  • Some seed raising mix, or if you have some good soil handy take some time to put it through a garden sieve
  • Patience!

You will find in your started pack some egg cartons to get you started.

1: Puncture a small hole in the bottom of your egg cartons and place tIMG_20130429_221602hem place in a dish that can hold approximately 2cm of water

2: Fill with soil and gently place 1-2 seeds in each carton

3: Label your seeds with the ice-cream sticks in your started pack

Be sure to keep your tray watered and once the seedlings reach the same height that your egg carton is (about a thumbs length), it is time to either put your seedlings in the ground or a   larger pot.

To minimise root disturbance, gently cut the bottom away from the egg carton and place the plant and remaining cardboard in the ground – the carton will break down – or after a week or so, you can gently lift it away, once the roots have had a chance to explore their new home.
