Soil Carbon Farming

Under the Paris Agreement the Australian Government has recently granted the first carbon credits for improving soil and proving that a significant amount of Carbon has been locked into the earth. This also applies to native planting and has, if nothing else, gotten farmers and land holders thinking seriously about their soil. The CSIRO have been working to develop digital technologies to assist as a conversion starter in this emerging field.

Early and accurate recording and ongoing record management of soil testing is critical and the money available in this sector is only advised as a supplement, not primary income.

As carbon credits are sold in an auction to carbon contributors in order to offset their emissions there is ethical debate about the need to first be carbon neutral before selling your carbon credits and understanding what sectors you may be allowing to advertise their output as carbon neutral regardless of their direct processes.
